Camping de Paal, one of Europe's largest camping sites, had a problem with their large indoor pool and childrens' wet play area. The problem was that there was a large area of steel floor grating, where children play with water toys, which was very difficult to walk on and slippery. To overcome the problem, rubber tiles were laid but, within six months, these had deteriorated, and clogged the water filters, not only because of the pool's chlorine but also because of wear by the metal below.

Sanimat, the Belgium distributor for Plastex, solved the problem by suggesting the alternative of using hard wearing and chlorine resistant vinyl matting. Being a manufacturer, Plastex was able to manufacture a hybrid product which had the required performance criteria for this application. The self-supporting 15mm thick matting has an open grid through which the water is easily dissipated and which contours easily over the steel grating below. Highly slip resistant and comfortable underfoot, it is one of a number of safety matting solutions provided by Plastic Extruders, to prevent slipping and accidents in wet areas, particularly internal and external swimming pool surrounds, walkways, showers and changing-rooms.

The matting has an open grid construction which helps water drain away easily in all directions. This means that the embossed surface remains relatively dry and therefore slip resistant. The matting is very hardwearing yet comfortable to stand on while the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal additives ensure it is hygienic for bare feet. Another important benefit is that because the matting is supplied in 10m roll format, a large area can be covered with one piece and the number of seams is reduced.

The matting is available in several colours and in widths of 50cm, 1m and 1.22m. Samples, information and performance Certificates are readily available from Plastic Extruders Ltd (tel 01268 571116) or visit www.plastexmatting.com
