The problem for the University Centre was how to provide safe access for students and, in particular, for those with disabilities when entering across the old cobbled courtyard. In addition, as this was the designated emergency exit, a safe and easy walkway needed to be created.
To solve this problem, Frontrunner XT, the heavy duty exterior version of the well-known Frontrunner Entrance Flooring System from Plastic Extruders, has been laid across the courtyard. The 100% vinyl open grid matting has proved to be very effective at providing easy access and safety underfoot because of its extra deep embossed surface which provides increased slip resistance in wet and potentially slippery conditions.
As with all entrance mattings in the System, XT is heel-proof and meets the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). It is loose laid with pvc ramp edging and will contour over uneven or rough surfaces, shed dirt through the grid and can be easily rolled up for cleaning and removal of dirt.
The Frontrunner Entrance Flooring System comprises several mattings suitable for different interior and exterior installations, all of which can be trimmed easily on site to fit any shape, such as within revolving doors or irregular shaped matwells. Options include Frontrunner Brush with nylon brush inserts to combat severe soiling, Frontrunner Plus which combines absorbent insets within the grid to scrape clean and dry shoes and also 100% vinyl Frontrunner without insets.
