A priority for Ashfield Council has been the importance of achieving the highest standards of cleanliness by ensuring that external shoe dirt and wind blown dust is prevented from entering the building. Working with design and build contractor Alfred McAlpine/Carilion, this has been solved by using the high performance Frontrunner system within automatic sliding double entrance doors. The matting was installed by Brook Flooring of Milton Keynes.
Frontrunner Plus matting is manufactured with integral absorbent insets within a heel-proof vinyl grid. This combination will scrape, clean and dry shoes while any dirt remaining falls through the grid and is not transferred inside. Visitors walk across a large area of matting which dramatically reduces the ingress of dirt and thereby enhances appearance and reduces maintenance. Another advantage for the leisure centre is that the matting is visitor-friendly, particularly for the less able, because it is heel-proof, stick-proof and does not inhibit wheel-chairs.
The entrance matting can be trimmed easily on site to fit any shape, such as within revolving doors or irregular shaped matwells. Its unique flexibility means it will contour over uneven or rough surfaces, while remaining stable underfoot and is easily lifted for cleaning and removal of dirt. Other options include external Frontrunner XT with extra surface grip, Frontrunner Brush with nylon brush inserts to combat severe soiling and Frontrunner 100% grid vinyl without the absorbent inserts.
