Plastex Matting News
Leed ratings in reference to entry matting is based on Indoor Chemical and Pollutant Source Control.
Leed ratings state the following:
To minimize building occupant exposure to potentially hazardous particulates and chemical pollutants.
Design to minimize and control the entry of pollutants into buildings and later cross-contamination of regularly occupied areas through the following strategies: Employ permanent entryway systems at least 10 feet long in the primary direction of travel to capture dirt and particulates entering the building at regularly used exterior entrances. Acceptable entryway systems include permanently installed grates, grills and slotted systems that allow for cleaning underneath. Roll-out mats are acceptable only when maintained on a weekly basis by a contracted service organization."1
The USGBC (United States Green Building Council) has published rating systems and guidelines for specific types of buildings, new construction & major renovations, schools, etc… and the guideline is generally the same, although length of the matting or entry apparatus varies slightly depending on type of application. There are no suggested or excluded types of matting, the source material for the matting, or recycled content of the material, only that they must allow for cleaning underneath.
Plastex Entry Matting (Gateway, Frontrunner, Frontrunner Plus, Frontrunner Brush, Frontrunner XT) would qualify for Leed Credit.
