French apartment entrance uses Gateway to reduce noise | Plastex

Frontrunner XT reduces noisy footsteps

Complaints from apartment residents about slippery surfaces and loud footsteps led the local housing association to seek out a slip-resistant, noise-cancelling solution.

The problem

When one of the local housing associations in northern France started receiving complaints from residents about unsafe surfaces and excessive noise, they needed a quick solution. Residents and visitors were slipping in the uncovered passageways, especially in wet weather, and were unhappy with noise created by echoing pedestrian foot traffic at and near apartment entrances. The building itself is a busy apartment complex made up of four separate buildings, all linked by walkways and common areas.

The checklist

  • Certified slip resistant
  • Reduce ongoing maintenance and labour costs
  • Withstand high levels of traffic, and be heel and wheel proof
  • Improve ambient acoustics and reduce echoing footsteps
  • Remain stable in all weather conditions

The solution

French flooring distributor Socofra Ubo recommended the use of Gateway 14 XT, our extra slip-resistant entrance matting, as the perfect apartment flooring solution to these problems. The matting has a diamond tread pattern that delivers excellent slip resistance and traction underfoot and is specifically designed for high traffic external areas like walkways and outdoor decking.

Like all our entrance mats, Gateway 14 XT features superior drainage, thanks to the open grid that dissipates water quickly and easily, and the aggressive tread pattern that collects and traps dirt and debris. The mat’s close mesh construction means it won’t pose any issues for wheelchairs or prams, while the two-layer PVC effectively dampens and absorbs noise.

“Gateway 14 XT has proved to be a very effective entrance mat for residential buildings, and the Housing Association is really pleased. It gives residents a good slip resistant surface on which to walk and also helps combat the problems of noisy communal walkways and passageways.”
